    Enabling Outdoor Learning for Teachers 

    On March 22nd Maya will be delivering workshops for teachers to give them tools and the know how to enjoy a trip to the beach with their pupils.

    “MARINElife is a UK-based charity established to coordinate and develop a growing portfolio of global cetacean and seabird research and monitoring projects. Through these projects and collaborations with like-minded organisations, we aim to further the conservation of the wildlife of oceans and coasts through scientific investigation and educational activities.”

    Maya is delighted to beome patron of this charity which does so much to better our understanding of cetacean and sea bird populations around the UK coast.

    Filming for IoW & Hampshire Wildlife Trust, “Making “Waves” project 

    Making Waves is a marine education and awareness project to promote marine life around Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Maya presented a short film which will be available soon on their website.

    This was a great opportunity to share her passion for marine education, encouraging others to enjoy and get to know our British coast.

    Maya will be attending the annual conference of the Institute of Outdoor Learning Conference 12-13th October. Here she will be carrying out a workshop to encourage using all of our senses during our explorations of the great outdoors.

    She will also be promoting her soon to be published (May 2013) book the RSPB Handbook of the Seashore (Bloomsbury publishing). There are also potential contracts looming for another second marine themed book – watch this space!

    In the next few weeks she will also be working on an educational video for a conservation organisation – more details to follow!

    Maya has been enjoying lots of opportunities to go diving off the South Devon and Cornish coast! She’s been also brushing up her diving skills and progressing with further qualifications – soon to be qualified as a BSAC Sports Diver (PADI Rescue Diver equivalent).

    Maya will be heading to Padstow on Thursday 13/09 to award the first cheque that Sea-Changers will be offering to the fantastic Padstow Lobster Hatchery. The funds will help the hatchery continue their invaluable work in contributing to a sustainable fishery and in their educational work in the community.
